During the Hurricanes of 2005, Katrina and Rita, New Orleans was devastated. What the storms didn’t destroy, the breaches in the levees did. We all watched in horror as the majority of the city flooded. Over the following 3 weeks, our beautiful home stewed in a brine of destruction. This was no ordinary “dye pot” but one that would “color” the city for future generations.
Yet through all the loss - and there was plenty among our members and their families – we still found strength to come together, to find solace in each other and in our fiber connections. Many guilds and individuals helped replace some of our lost tools, fibers and yarns. Together we helped each other hang on. We celebrated the small as well as the big successes.
We invite you to participate and be a part of a special project focusing on bringing together the Threads to Recovery. Read more about it in the Katrina Project and bring some yarn to contribute as “your gift” to the Recovery Project.
Roc Day 2009 will be held in the Ballroom of the Lavin-Bernick University Center at historic Tulane University from 9am to 4pm. Special activities are being planned this year in addition to the usual sharing, learning, market place, luncheon and door prizes. Check out the What's New Page for details!
Included on this site is all you need to plan a great day in New Orleans. Come be a part of the Threads to Recovery! |
