November 2021 annual dyeing pop-up workshop: cochineal, indigo and turmeric!

April, 2021, Saturday’s Cochineal collecting outing. Rain did not get in the way of this determine group! The bugs, once dried and readied will supply the red dye for this fall’s annual dye workshop. In the images below show how the cochineal bugs attach themselves to the underside of the Cochineal Nopal Cactus sometimes called the opuntia cactus. Looking for a day trip from New Orleans. We have the perfect suggestion, visit The Hilliard Museum in Lafayette, LA. The museum has put together an amazing exhibit called: The Fabric of Acadiana: Acadian Brown Cotton. Several members of the New Orleans Weavers Guild participated in the exhibit.
